A Standard Water Vapor Transmission Rate Test Process with Labthink C370H Water Vapor Transmission Rate Test System

The Labthink C370H Water Vapor Transmission Rate Test System is an advanced laboratory instrument designed to measure the water vapor permeability and barrier properties of various packaging materials used in pharmaceutical, food, medical device, and other packaging applications..

Key Features & Overview:

  • Testing Methodology & Standards: Built upon the classic gravimetric method, it supports both the water method and desiccant method. It complies with major international standards, including ASTM E96, GB/T 1037, ISO 2528, and TAPPI T464.

  • Versatile Applications: Designed primarily for testing high-barrier films, sheets, paper, non-wovens, and full packaging containers (such as bottles, pouches, tubes, and blister packs) used in the pharmaceutical, food, medical device, and chemical industries.

  • High Precision & Efficiency: Features a 45L test chamber with 6 standard test stations (expandable up to 9) that allow for independent sample testing and data generation. Electronic balance offering a resolution of 0.1 mg and repeatability up to 0.3 mg.

  • Intelligent & Compliant Operation: Operated standalone via a 10.6-inch touchscreen or connected to dedicated software featuring automatic calculation, data recording, multi-level user access, and optional 21 CFR Part 11 / GMP compliance for pharmaceutical data traceability.

Water Vapor Transmission Rate Test Process

Step 1: Sample Preparation and Mounting: Test dishes are filled with water or desiccant, and samples are sealed onto the dishes. An optional automatic tightening device enables hands-free loading.

Step 2: Sample Placement and Chamber Sealing: Test dishes are placed into a 45-liter chamber with 6 standard stations (expandable to 9) for independent, simultaneous testing. A pneumatic sealing system isolates the test chamber from the weighing chamber to protect measurement accuracy from temperature and humidity fluctuations.

Step 3: Parameter Setting: Testing conditions (temperature 15C-50C, humidity 10%-90% RH, and airflow rate) are configured using a 10.6-inch touchscreen interface.

Step 4: Automatic Testing: The process runs fully automatically using a high-precision balance (0.1 mg resolution, 0.3 mg repeatability) featuring automatic zeroing and intermittent weighing to minimize system errors. Data, graphs, and final transmission rates are automatically calculated and logged.
